Will New Windows Improve Your Property Value?

There are multiple reasons to replace the windows in your house. Installing new ones can improve your thermal efficiency, reduce your monthly energy bills, and cut down the noise from outside. It’s a great way to resolve any issues such as damage and can even contribute to improved mental health. After all, when our homes look good, it’s easier to feel better about them and by extension, ourselves.

But what about the financial aspect? Will new windows increase the value of your home? It’s a question we’ve been asked many times here at DL Windows, so we thought we’d put together this short article. Read on to learn more.

The Financial Benefits Of New Windows

For the sake of simplicity, yes, installing new windows will increase the value of your property. When evaluating how much a house costs, experts place a great deal of emphasis on installations like doors and windows. The more up-to-date ones will inevitably be viewed more positively than older, cracked or damaged windows and as such, they’ll increase the resale price.

There are several reasons for this. On a practical level, newer windows have better security than older ones. They’ll have benefitted from years of technological developments so that the frames will be tougher, the locks more sophisticated, and any would-be intruders will have a harder time forcing them open.

More superficially, new windows are also incredibly attractive. You should never underestimate the advantages of creating a cohesive decor; it does wonders for your kerb appeal. If your house turns the heads of passers-by, it will generate more demand and consequently, increase the price tag.

When To Replace Your Windows

Upgrading your windows has several benefits, but before you rush headlong into a project, there are a few other things to bear in mind. Firstly, it’s worth asking if your windows need replacing in the first place. If they’re showing signs of wear and tear, you notice draughts around them or they’re covered in cracks, they’re definitely worth upgrading. However, if they’re still performing well and are in good condition, we’d suggest leaving them alone. They may still have years of life left in them.

Secondly, carefully consider what type of windows you want. This is especially important if you live in a heritage home or conservation area and have a strict aesthetic to maintain. Older homes usually have timber windows, but it’s now possible to get uPVC or aluminium windows with woodgrain finishes that are all but indistinguishable from real wood. We can customise our windows to appear older than they actually are, but deliver a modern performance.

To summarise though, fitting new windows will help increase your property value. The caveat to this is that it’s all but impossible to say by how much, but we’ve yet to encounter a scenario where new windows reduce the value of a house. We’ve been installing windows across Wiltshire for over fifty years and it hasn’t happened once.
